What is Fotona SmoothEye Laser?

The Fotona SmoothEye® treatment utilises the Er:YAG laser beam to tighten loose skin and wrinkles around the eye. The treatment is unique as the inner mucosal layer of the lower eyelid is also treated directly, thereby tightening the ligaments of the lower eyelid.

FAQs

Topical anaesthetic eye drops and eye lubricant will be applied to the eyes before putting on ocular eyeshields. These opaque eyeshields are worn on the eyes for protection during treatment. The doctor would then safely treat the inner mucosal surface of the lower eyelid with the laser to tighten the ligaments of the lower eyelid. Thereafter, the doctor would treat the skin around the eyes.

The feeling during the treatment is generally described as feeling like a gentle snapping of a rubber band on the skin. The area will feel warm during treatment.

For optimal results, this treatment should be repeated monthly for about 3 sessions. The number of sessions needed depends on the skin condition and the desired result.

 

The treatment has minimal downtime. There might be swelling or puffiness, but it will resolve naturally over 1-2 days. Mild scabbing may occur over the eyelid if intense treatment is done but this will be resolved fairly quickly.
