HIFU

What is HIFU?

HIFU, or high intensity focused ultrasound, is a treatment that is loved by many when it comes to non-invasive skin firming treatments. There are many benefits for HIFU and it can do more than firming and tightening! At Halley Medical Aesthetics, you can also brighten your skin with HIFU.

How does HIFU work?

HIFU uses focused ultrasound energy that targets the SMAS layer of skin. It heats up the skin tissues and stimulates collagen production to firm and lift the skin.

Different transducers for different treatments

HIFU accomplishes different objectives by the use of different transducers, which deliver energy to different depths of the skin to achieve either firming or brightening.

HIFU for Face and Neck Firming

This is a no downtime, non-surgical treatment to firm your face and neck. The focused ultrasound energy of this treatment penetrates the skin at depths of 4.5mm, 3.0mm, and 1.5mm to induce collagen production for skin firming and tightening. A minimum of three sessions done once a month is required for results to be optimal.

HIFU for Skin Brightening

For skin brightening, HIFU targets ultrasound energy at 2mm under the surface of the skin in the area known as the dermis. This no downtime, non-invasive treatment contracts and blocks the capillaries in the skin to reduce flushing or redness of the skin and minimise the appearance of spider veins on the face.

What to expect during a HIFU treatment?

Patients will experience a prickling sensation under the skin, however, this sensation is well tolerated by most people. Patients may also feel a mild warm sensation on the treated area or a mild ache over the bony areas (e.g. jawline) during treatment.
