Profhilo has been gaining popularity in Singapore and we are really curious as to what it is, how it can benefit our skin, and how different it is from skin boosters.

After giving us an in-depth sharing on Rejuran Skin Healer in one of our previous videos, we are glad to have Dr. Mark Lim with us again to help us better understand the differences between Restylane Skin Booster and Profhilo.

We learned a lot about the Rejuran Skin Healer treatment from the previous video. Can you then also share with us, what are skin boosters and Profhilo?

Skin boosters treatments consists of multiple microinjections of low density, very soft hyaluronic acid (HA) filler which improves skin texture and tone by replacing HA lost through ageing, and by hydrating the skin. It is a tried and tested treatment that we have offered for many years with good results.

On the other hand, Profhilo is an exciting new treatment option which consists of just five injections on each side of the face with high-density high and low molecular weight HA. The low molecular weight HA component gives a similar effect with skin boosters while the high molecular weight HA component gives a lifting or scaffolding effect by improving the HA architecture of the dermal layer of the skin. There are also some studies that show that Profhilo stimulates collagen and elastin production which improves skin elasticity.

What are the main differences between skin boosters, Rejuran, and Profhilo then?

Rejuran Skin Healer consists of polynucleotides which are building blocks of DNA that help us look more youthful by stimulating tissue regeneration and wound healing, and has anti-ageing effects due to its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

It is quite forgivable to confuse between the three options of skin boosters, Profhilo, and Rejuran. The effects of the treatments and the procedures are quite similar.

In terms of effects, skin boosters and Profhilo give a relatively quick improvement in skin quality through its direct volumizing and hydrating effect. Rejuran, on the other hand, and also Profhilo have delayed effects on skin rejuvenation by stimulating collagen and elastin and by increasing cell regeneration.

In terms of the procedure, numbing cream is applied before microinjections to the superficial layer of the skin are performed. Patients can expect small skin bumps which subside quickly over the next 2-3 days. For Rejuran and skin boosters, multiple injections are distributed across the entire face. In comparison, for Profhilo, injections to just 10 bio aesthetic points (BAPs) are performed over the lower face. For patients keen on neck rejuvenation, all three are good options for the neck as well.

How do we know which treatment to go for?

Baby Skin Healer Trio

While all treatments have their pros and cons, it always makes sense to combine treatments whenever possible for superior results. As such, we are happy to share the Baby Skin Healer Trio which combines skin booster, Rejuran Skin Healer, and intradermal botox which is also known as micro-Botox. Skin boosters gives a more immediate effect, Rejuran a more delayed and sustained effect, while intradermal Botox helps pore tightening and in reduces oil production.

Is there any pain or downtime for these three treatments?

Some degree of discomfort may be expected but we can manage this quite effectively with local anaesthetic cream. Because Profhilo involves much fewer injections, numbing the skin with a simple ice pack is often enough as well.

With regards to downtime, patients can expect skin bumps to subside quickly over 2-3 days. While slight bruising may occur, large unsightly bruises are a very rare occurrence.

And last but not least, how often do we have to repeat the treatments?

Rejuran, skin boosters, and Halley’s Baby Skin Healer Trio should be repeated monthly for three sessions for the initial treatment and then repeated once every six months for maintenance.

Profhilo is administered as two treatments one month apart and can likewise be repeated once every six months for maintenance.
