We spoke to Dr. Terence Tan to find out what the beauty concerns of Japanese living in Singapore are, and also, the common feminine health issues that are faced by many women in Singapore.

Dr. Terence Tan, Medical Director of Halley Medical Aesthetics and Halley Body Slimming Clinic.

Dr. Terence Tan, Medical Director of Halley Medical Aesthetics and Halley Body Slimming Clinic, speaks fluent Japanese and it is no surprise that many Japanese who are living in Singapore come to him to address their face and body concerns.

1. What are some of the beauty concerns of Japanese living in Singapore?

Japanese patients in Singapore are generally most concerned about ageing related issues. Facial pigmentation like melasma, facial sagginess due to loose skin, and volume loss are the main concerns among our Japanese patients.

Feminine health can be improved by Exilis Ultra Femme 360 which uses radiofrequency and ultrasound to induce tightening of the vaginal wall and the surrounding skin.  This is frequently followed by Tesla Muscle Former, which uses EMS (Electromagnetic Stimulation) which tightens the pelvic floor muscles surrounding the vaginal wall and urinary tract, muscle tone to improve sexual function and urinary continence.

2. What are some of the common feminine health issues that occur after childbirth?

As vaginal walls and the surrounding muscles stretches during childbirth, they are commonly damaged in the process, leading to loosening of the vaginal wall and pelvic floor muscles. Ageing reduces the elasticity of the vaginal wall and reduces the strength of the pelvic floor.  Weakening of the pelvic floor muscles may lead to urinary incontinence.

3. You were sharing about Exilis Ultra Femme 360 and Tesla Muscle Former treatments for improving feminine health. How do they work?

Exilis Ultra Femme 360

Treatment using Exilis Ultra Femme 360 is divided into two phases, the first phase utilises a single-use, disposable vaginal probe which transmits radiofrequency safely to the vaginal wall. The process is generally comfortable. The patient feels gentle heating as the probe is moved very slowly within the vagina. Thereafter a different disposable probe is used on the skin surrounding the vaginal wall for tightening. This process involves continuous movement under real-time temperature monitoring to ensure effectiveness and safety.

Tesla Muscle Former

For Tesla Muscle Former, the patient sits on a special chair fitted with a strong magnet on the seat. The patient can be fully dressed during the 45-minute treatment. During the treatment, strong electromagnetic waves would stimulate the pelvic floor muscles to contract. This is done safely according to protocol. The contractions are fairly strong and can go up to 160 contractions a second to effectively strengthen the pelvic floor muscles

4. I heard that we can train our pelvic floor muscles ourselves. How do we do that?

Patients can try to do pelvic floor muscle exercises by themselves at home. The feeling should be as if we are trying to grip an object in the pelvis. It is a good exercise to make the Tesla Muscle Former treatment even more effective!

5. Any advice on daily care for our V-zone?

Proper cleansing of the delicate zone and urination after sexual intercourse is recommended. Infection can affect vaginal health. Patients with frequent infections will benefit from vaginal douche. These preparations are widely available for purchase in Singapore pharmacies without a need for a doctor’s prescription.

6. Treatments targeting feminine health issues are growing rapidly in Japan. What about Singapore?

There is certainly more demand for treatment of women’s health issues now in Singapore too. While it has always been an issue, women are now more open to talk about these issues and seek treatment. As there are so many choices out there, my advice would be to seek treatment in a medical clinic under the supervision of a doctor.
